End the dizziness! Make your screen not turn on its own

One of the most uncomfortable moments in the use of the mobile occurs when the screen does not stop rotating in vertical and horizontal position. A change that occurs because the gyroscope detects that the position changes and with it the modification is applied to the software automatically.

However, we will be able to control this at will if we know how to do it. A change available to Android phones and iPhones that will make the difference between being comfortable or unhappy with our mobile. Options that will be available on all smartphones, no matter how old or modern, regardless of the Android version, the customization layer or the iOS version that we enjoy.

Automatic screen rotation on Android and iOS

The automatic rotation or screen rotation option is one of the most classic of mobiles, although possibly until now you have not heard of it. It is a function that allows or does not allow the screen to change position when tilting it, therefore it will be a key point when it comes to avoiding unexpected turns in smartphones that can give us so many headaches.

It was a solution integrated into the first versions of Android and iOS with the intention of consuming content more comfortably horizontally. At first it was thought for videos and multimedia content, but later it has been extended to take advantage of games and many other apps.

It is something that does not allow us many options, because basically we will only be able to activate or deactivate the screen rotation, but which nevertheless can make a difference from what the smartphone offers us. To confirm this, we have to make two quick gestures on our Android or iOS mobile.

To apply the screen rotation lock or deactivate it, we just have to lower the quick access bar of the smartphone. Once here, we will look for the option that allows us to modify the turn. Just by touching it, we are going to exchange the option between being activated or deactivated, although each brand and customization layer decides if by default what we do is to block the rotation or activate it by touching the button.

In the iPhone the thing does not change too much, you will only have to deploy the control center to be able to block the automatic screen rotation. A fast option and that we can change position on both iOS and Android within these quick panels to personalize our user experience.

Take control of the screen manually

Android on many occasions has proven to be one step ahead of iOS and this time we have an advantage that once again shows us that it thinks about users. To put an end to those unexpected screen turns, it allows us to completely forget the gyroscope-based screen rotation, so that the user is always the one who decides whether the screen is vertical or horizontal.

From Android 11 we can make a manual turn on all Android smartphones, regardless of whether we have one layer of customization or another. In addition, we do not have to do anything so that it does not appear. All you have to do is rotate the position screen and in the lower left corner we will see a small button that refers to the screen rotation. By tapping on it, the app we are using will change position for our comfort.

This is a one-off change, given that if we then leave the paper and re-enter, it will regain its natural position. This option is the lifesaver for those who suffer from automatic spin problems on the Android smartphone. The only reason, therefore, for the mobile to change position with the rotation off, is that we accidentally touch the rotation button that appears to us.

Why does the screen rotate without doing anything?

In case the screen rotation is activated for our comfort, we may notice that the screen rotation presents errors and makes incorrect decisions on both Android and iOS. To try to restore sanity to the mobile screen we have to think about possible failures based on hardware or software. But the most common is that there is no problem and that our smartphone has its automatic rotation options configured in a sensitive way.

Each brand decides in its terminals how sensitive the automatic turning tool is. That is why in some it is not necessary to bend too much for the rotation on the screen to take place. Just by leaning on the sofa with some inclination, our mobile will make the decision to rotate the panel for our comfort, although that really is a mistake.

On the other hand, the problems may be in the gyroscope, which although it has not been thought to detect turns so quickly, a hit or a fall may have been confusing. Also, without doing anything you can cause a problem to the performance of positions of the smartphone.

Can we calibrate the automatic screen rotation?

While many other devices of our mobile such as the brightness sensor can be calibrated or at least reset, the gyroscope does not allow this modification. This inevitably means that we have to choose to reset the smartphone to the factory, so that all its sensors return to the original state. In any case, this does not ensure its correct operation and we may have to go through the technical service to solve it.

In the event that the terminal is within the two-year warranty period and has not received any blow that may have caused this error, we will have to go to the official store or technical service. They will connect the smartphone to the specialized machine that is responsible for checking the sensors of the terminal and giving us an answer that will tell us if it really is a problem to be solved with labor or, on the contrary, it is a software failure. In the latter case, we can do nothing more than deactivate the automatic rotation and resign ourselves.
