Find out everything with Google Discover on your Android mobile

Today, there is no doubt that Google Discover has become one of those essential elements that all users must have on our Android mobile. More than anything, because thanks to this section of the Google application itself we can have access to news that is of interest to us so that we do not waste time on others that will not provide us with anything useful.

In addition, as we will explain later, it will let us select which topics or media are most of our interest. It even makes it easier for us to consult weather information from this section as well.

However, although it has been gaining weight in recent times, it is a section that is quite unknown by many Android users. And there are others who do not want to use Discover. Fortunately, there is both the possibility of activating it and deactivating it from our terminals. Therefore, we will explain how you can enable or remove it, as well as adjust your preferences. Whatever your preference, you can adjust this on the phone for better use of it.

What is this tool?

For those people who do not yet know what this tool called Google Discover consists of, it must be understood that it was previously known under the name of Google Feed. And, in short, it is one of the functionalities that the company adds which consists of offering us content according to our preferences without having to waste our time investigating different sources of information.

For those people who do not yet know what this tool called Google Discover consists of, it must be understood that it was previously known under the name of Google Feed. And, in short, it is one of the functionalities that the company adds which consists of offering us content according to our preferences without having to waste our time investigating different sources of information.

It may even be the case that you may not have even realized it yet. But the truth is that the vast majority of Android phones come with it by default. In addition, it is a tool that can also be installed on those iOS mobile devices. Although, what interests us today is to know in depth what it is about and how to enable or disable it from our phone.

So let’s get back to the main focus. Basically, the company’s artificial intelligence is currently capable of showing us news of our interest on our smartphone with complete autonomy. That is, when we enter said software we will only have to scroll to the last screen on the left in the main interface on Android. Once there, it will show us a feed with content, which is called Google Discover.

The same company will indicate to us that this section is capable of receiving “News about your interests”. And this is possible thanks to the fact that they process our registered data. In other words, they take advantage of the trail that we are leaving to offer us a more personalized experience.

Turn Google Discover on or off

As we mentioned earlier, this tool is something that usually comes on most Android mobile devices. However, we cannot affirm that it is at all, since it may also depend on the manufacturer’s own customization layer. To know if you have it or not, all you have to do is slide the home panel of your phone to the left to see if you have access to this section. In it, we can see both news and the weather.

In addition, it becomes a comfortable option, although some users may not want to use it on their terminals. Or, there may also be the fact that there are users who have the possibility to use it, but have not activated it. Therefore, we will show you the steps to follow both for its activation and deactivation. And all this is possible within the application settings of this company. The best thing is that to perform any of these two actions they are the same, so we will not have more difficulty. Therefore, do the following:

  1. Open the Google app.
  2. Click on More.
  3. Enter the Settings menu.
  4. Access General.
  5. Then find the section called Discover.
  6. Activates or deactivates the button. Here it will depend on you, since it will be you who finally decides if you want to have it enabled or not.

Once this is done, we will activate or deactivate it on our smartphone. If in your case you have chosen to disable it, you should bear in mind that you will no longer have this section in the terminal when you slide the phone panel all the way to the left. That is, the mobile itself will not let you.

Learn to use it in the best way

It is common for users to decide to deactivate it on their mobile devices because they do not see that it is something necessary from which they can really take advantage of. However, they may not know that there are different ways to customize it in order to make the most of this functionality. In this way, we will make this tool offer us a greater utility. Among its configurations we recommend the following:

  • Make your interests clear: so you can see those topics that are of interest to you. In the settings you can set topics or interests that are to your liking, in this way it will take it into account when displaying those contents.
  • That it only shows you the news of a topic: in case you come across news of a topic that you like a lot, in Google Discover you can change its settings to see more news of that topic or that are even more related.
  • Forget about fake news: another important point, where there is a lot of work behind it, is that the selection of media and news has been improved so that they do not show you false news.

Therefore, we must also take care of what we are looking for, since Google is able to predict our searches and interests before we do by consulting the following aspects:

  • The browsing history.
  • Our activity in those places that the company has permission to access such as the inbox and outbox of emails, use of applications, Skype conversations, among others.
  • The location history.
  • The own information of our devices.

But that’s not all, since to improve this experience we ourselves can help this tool even more. To do this, we must manually select the topics that you like the most, that is, if we liked a piece of news and we want to receive more of this type, we must click on the heart that is displayed on the card.

Otherwise, if a news that is shown to us in this section is not to our liking, we can act on it. On the same card, you will have to click on the three dots next to the like and share symbols. Then some of the following options will be displayed:

  • I’m not interested.
  • I am not interested in the subject.
  • Do not show news from this medium.
  • Do not show news in English.
  • Report content.
